About Mature Encounters: Over 40s Dating Since 2014
Since September 2014, Mature Encounters has been the part of Encounters.uk where singles over 40 come to meet someone. Here's who we are and how we like things done.
A friendly corner of Encounters.uk since 2014
Mature Encounters went online in September 2014, one of the first three sections of Encounters.uk alongside Single Encounters and Casual Encounters. The idea is simple: rather than drop everyone into one enormous pool, Encounters.uk gives people a section where others want the same things they do, and singles over 40 a place of their own.
Twelve years on, Mature Encounters still has its own members and its own sign-up. It's mainstream, warm and grown-up, more romantic than racy, and it's here for whatever you're hoping to find: a long-term partner, someone to share Sunday lunch and country walks with, or simply the fun of dating again after years away.
It's a smaller, friendly section. Most members are women, and most are aged between 35 and 64. You can see some of them on our home page.
House rules that keep it friendly
Mature Encounters works best when it feels like a good dinner party: relaxed, honest and polite. Our house rules are simple.
- Be yourself
- Use recent photos of you, and only you, and be honest about your age, your situation and what you're looking for.
- Be kind
- Write to people the way you'd speak to them face to face. If you're not interested, a polite no thanks beats silence.
- Take no for an answer
- If someone doesn't reply, or tells you they're not interested, leave it there.
- Keep it grown-up, not explicit
- This is a mainstream section, so keep photos, profiles and messages fit for anyone to read.
- Never ask for money
- Profiles are for meeting people. Asking another member for money, or trying to sell them anything, has no place here.
- Be 18 or over
- Mature Encounters is aimed at singles over 40, and every member must be at least 18.
- Speak up
- Report any profile or message that breaks these rules, and block anyone you'd rather not hear from. Our safety advice covers the rest, from romance scams to first dates.

Mature Encounters: your questions
Is Mature Encounters part of Encounters Dating?
No. Encounters Dating is a different company, linked with The Times and The Sunday Times, and we have no connection with it. Mature Encounters is part of Encounters.uk, online since 2014.
Is it for people over 50 and over 60 as well?
Very much so. Mature Encounters is for anyone over 40, and about one in four members is 55 or over.
Can I join more than one Encounters section?
Yes. Each section has its own sign-up, so you can join Mature Encounters and, say, Single Encounters separately, with a profile on each.
How do I get started?
Sign up, make your profile and add a couple of recent photos, then look out for your daily match suggestions. Our features page explains everything else you can do.
